Buttonwood Colored School and Museum
Buttonwood Colored School and Museum's mission is to preserve it as a symbol of the history of the advancement of education and, to provide the facilities of the building to the New Castle community.
The School and Museum's objectives include the following:
- Recognize and promulgate the role of P.S. DuPont in advancing education in Delaware especially in the African-American community.
- Promote tours by students and teachers to augment their understanding and appreciation of the value of education and its’ history in Delaware.
- Serve the local community and businesses through the use of the facilities for weddings, anniversaries, classroom programs, etc.
The Buttonwood School is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization with a Board of Trustees overseeing the successful operation of the school.
