A. C. McMillan African American Museum

The A. C. McMillan African American Museum in Emory has a number of exhibits and artifacts that detail the stories of the Reconstruction era in Texas, as well as Negro League baseball and Buffalo soldiers.

The museum also includes a number of vintage U.S. postage stamps as well as a display of the Rosenwald Schools in the South. In fact, the museum is now in the midst of a fund-raising campaign to ultimately preserve and restore a vacated Rosenwald School building in the community.

The mission of the Alfred Clifton (A. C.) McMillan African American Museum is to serve as a repository for historical and significant events affecting African Americans in the Rains County area; to serve as a neutral point and bridge between racial and ethnic groups; to instill a sense of identity and pride in African American students; and to serve as a leadership development institution for the African American community in and around Rains County, as well as throughout the United States.
